So my pit bull Mac celebrated his 3rd Birthday on December 3rd, 2013 and so I made him this yummy cake as a special little treat!

He absolutely loved it, though it was a bit crumby, he was one happy guy with some new toys and cake. I know I’ll be giving my pooch some to share with his new girlfriend too ;) Here’s the recipe that I used to make them. It’s great because you can make up to 6 (or more depending on how small you want to make them) cupcakes that your pooch can have or you can have a little doggy birthday party and share. It’s really simple, fun, and your dog will love it.

The Yummy Doggy Birthday Cake

– 1/4 cup peanut butter
– 1/3 cup honey (optional)
– 1/4 cup vegetable oil/cooking oil
– 1 egg
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 cup shredded carrots
– 1 cup whole wheat or white flour
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). With butter or cooking spray, grease up about 6 cups in a cupcake pan. (You can make them in different ways i.e cookies, mini cakes, etc so go with what you’d like best). **For some fun, you can also put them in the shape of a dog bone!**
2. Mix together the peanut butter, (optional) honey, egg, oil, and vanilla in a bowl (mix together well) then stir in the carrots.
3. Mix in the flour and baking soda into the peanut butter-carrot mixture. Spoon cake batter into prepared pan.
4. Bake in preheated oven for about 20 Minutes (at MOST 40 minutes) – Check on it after 15 minutes. You should be able to stick your knife or fork into the cake and it come out clean. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes and voilà!

**Fun Little Notes**
You can use the cupcake pan or you could make mini cookie shapes for smaller dogs perhaps as well. I haven’t tried making tiny cookies, but I assume they’d work fine that way as well. You can decorate them, put in some little treat in the middle like a ball of their favorite treat or goodie (I would say peanut butter, but the cake is very peanut buttery). These are safe for us muggles to eat so you’re more then welcome to give them a taste but for us they’re pretty dry. I haven’t tried this but I figured adding 1/8 cup of water may make it a bit more moist and delicious but that’s totally up to you to try. Have fun and enjoy!
